MEET DENISE 

Commissioner Denise Mitchell, MPA, has served as Gwinnett County Tax Commissioner since spring of 2022. As Tax Commissioner, she is responsible for the billing, collection, and disbursement of over $2.1 billion in revenue.

 

Denise has served in the Gwinnett Tax Commissioner's Office since 1998. Throughout her time in the office, she has worked up through the ranks, being swiftly promoted to increasingly responsible positions. She served as Accounting Supervisor, Accounting Manager, Director of Finance and Accounting, and Chief Deputy Tax Commissioner prior to stepping up to serve as our Tax Commissioner in Spring 2022.

Denise earned a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the Keller Graduate School of Management at DeVry University and a bachelor's degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Georgia State University. She has been designated by the University of Georgia as a Certified Local Government Manager and as a Certified Finance Officer. 

 

Commissioner Mitchell is a board member of the Tax Commissioners' Technology Development Council of Georgia and a member of the Georgia Tax Officials Association (GATO) along with Grace Toastmasters of Snellville. For 12 years, Denise taught English as a Second Language. She is also a volunteer with the Gwinnett Tax Team's Relay for Life.

 

Denise has two adult daughters, one granddaughter, and two grandsons. She and her husband live in Snellville with their dog, Oliver, and the family attends Annistown Road Church in Snellville.
